One of my many hobbies include eating good food. This may come off a bit odd because many don’t consider this as a hobby but it is something I look forward to every day. There is just something about Sunday’s spent listening to good music and eating good food in the company of loved ones that is pure bliss. It brings flavor and spice to life. I have met a lot of interesting people while enjoying a great meal. One of the most memorable evening meals I have ever had took place on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. They started us off with assorted cheeses, red grapes, and Italian bread, courtesy of the chef. The main course consisted of mashed potatoes and Coq au vin, which is French for chicken fried in red wine, smothered with onions, mushroom and bacon. To top it off, dessert was a creme brûlée with vanilla custard and caramelized sugar. I was extremely happy that night and vowed to never forget that day. Good food is my hobby because I don’t limit myself to one specific cuisine. During my lifetime, I’ve tried and enjoyed Mexican food, Italian, Indian, Thai, Greek, Chinese, French, Armenian, and Middle Eastern food. One can never go wrong with a good meal, so I consider eating good food my favorite hobby.
I was introduced to food from my father who was born in Europe. He is the greatest person I know. He is so happy all the time. Its hard not to be happy when your around him. He also does a really great job on giving me criticism and advice. He truly believes that the world is mine for the taking. I love sitting down and talking with him because he makes me feel like I can accomplish anything. It’s really great when you have someone who believes in you that much. He’s my mentor, my number one supporter and I aspire to be like him when I’m older. That being said, my dad is one of my best friends. He sacrificed a lot to bring me to the place where I now stand. He has always supported me and stood by me as I made some of the poorest decisions of my life. He shaped me to be the person that I am, which is important because everyday I strive to never give up.
Ultimately, my goal in life is to be genuinely happy. I’ll never forget the day I caught a glimpse of that happiness and held on to it for dear life. After my high school graduation, I was lucky enough to travel with my sisters. One of the best nights took place in Hawaii. We were at the beach where the water was warm, the sky was filled with orange and pink colors, and i was surrounded by my best friends. The salt stung our eyes as we were getting destroyed by the ocean waves but it was perfect. We swam for hours like we were kids. Even after the sun went down i remember thinking, “I want to stay here forever.” I realized then that i was in my happiest, purest state. Sometimes when we strip down the pressures and expectations of other people that’s when people are most happiest.
Since high school, I have been interested in Dermatology. For as long as I can remember I loved buying skincare products. Whether it was to clear my acne or rejuvenate my face— it was important for me to feel confident in my skin and that did not include acne. Acne changed the way I looked. It wasn’t just a pimple, it deformed my face. Sometimes I was left with scars and it was just painful. As a teenager, I was relieved to know that so many people struggled with acne. Relived because I felt I wasn’t alone in my insecurity and there were people that had gone through the same journey as me. So it became my sole mission to fix my insecurity to become more confident in the way I looked. This is how i became interested n dermatology. My goal is to help people who are self-conscious about their skin gain confidence and take control of their life.
